You messaged me out of the blue.
I wasn’t looking for anyone,
In fact I was too busy running from someone else,
But I slowed down enough to reply
“Hey.”
You slowly became my good morning text,
My drunken phone call,
My tearful FaceTime when work had wrung me out like a dirty tea towel,
And you were there,
Always.
Stop confusing labor with jobs. Labor is necessary for survival, duh. Jobs are necessary for capitalism’s survival. NOT THE SAME!
Labor = The work necessary for survival – creating shelter, procuring/producing food, etc.
Jobs = The exploitation of labor (extraction of surplus value) necessary for profit accumulation.
I don’t hate work. I actually really like working, doing something useful, using my body, accomplishing something. I hate my jobs; I hate the thankless, repetitive tasks I sacrifice my time and energy to in the name of subsistence.
Actually think most people are similar to you in this respect. I enjoy work too. Work can be super meaningful, but work manifested as exploited labor for somebody else’s profit is straight up alienating, stressful, and under-rewarding.
